I am full of good news. I have been, as always, busy busy, but now I have positive successes to report.
My self portrait, The Insomniac#5, has been accepted into the Alberta Society of Artists juried show Self Portraits: Within the Artist which will be touring over the next two years starting this May in Edmonton and Calgary. ( above is a detail of the painting)
I was published in the Aesthetica arts and culture magazine and website in their February issue. It was such a privilege to be published in this magazine and in the American Art Collectors magazine within 6 months of each other. It makes me smile that my work can be seen around the world in these magazines.
I was contacted by the International Contemporary Artists publishing company and asked if I would be apart of their book. I will have two pages in the International Contemporary Artists book which comes out this May 2014.
My website has been up for a while and I am really grateful to Christine and Stephan at Ashworth Design for their awesome job on it. You can check it out at www.daphnecote.com .
As you may have read or heard I am going to Washington D.C. this spring for the American Portrait Society's annual conference, and I feel very fortunate that I am the recipient of their tuition award for the conference. This will help me out immensely as after the conference I will be going to New York City to tour the galleries there. This whole trip is a dream coming true for me as is winning an international award.
Almost every Saturday I can be found studying the human form at a local model session started and supported by professional artists who's common want in sharing the cost of a model brought us together. These model sessions have helped my work in leaps and bounds. To be able to study the human figure almost every week and to be around such supportive professional artists is an amazing gift to my life and career.
So in general, I am just feeling very grateful to the world and my amazing family and friends.
This new year I started a facebook page for those of you on facebook that want to have a more up to date idea of what I'm working on and what's happening in my artistic career. I post paintings in progress, the latest news, and include quick shots of my figurative drawing from the Saturday model sessions. https://www.facebook.com/DaphneCoteArtist
